ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Christine Ma-Kellams is a Pushcart-nominated writer, Harvard-trained cultural psychologist, and college professor who occupies the intersection where story-telling meets an empirical understanding of what makes people tick.Her empirical studies on culture, social perception and relationships have also been widely covered in GQ (Australia), Esquire (Middle East), Boston Globe, Vice News, Elle Magazine (UK), the Atlantic, Yahoo News, MSN News, Fox News, New York Post, and Daily Mail. Her academic textbook, Cultural Psychology: Cross- and Multicultural Perspectives, has been adopted in classes at college campuses across the U.S. and overseas. The Band (Atria/Simon & Schuster) is her first novel.

Janie Kim was born and raised in San Diego, California. She studied molecular biology at Princeton University, went on a Fulbright research grant to Denmark, and is now a biology PhD student at Stanford University. She studies fun-sized sea creatures.

Sonali Kohli is a journalist writing about young people and the futures they are creating. Kohli was an education reporter for the Los Angeles Times for 6 years with a passion for covering youth movements, and in 2020, was named the top education journalist in the nation by the Education Writers Association. She is currently a recruiter at URL Media, where she works with underrepresented folks in journalism and media to find jobs and workplaces that will treat them well. Award-winning writer and editor Karen Yin is the troublemaker behind ConsciousStyleGuide.com and “The Conscious Style Guide: A Flexible Approach to Language That Includes, Respects, and Empowers” (2024). She has written several picture books, including “Whole Whale” and “So Not Ghoul,” and her short stories for teens, such as “My Kinda Sorta Badass Move,” have been anthologized.
